For Earth Day 2024, EARTHDAY.ORG is restating their call to reduce, then end plastic production, for the sake of both human and planetary health. The organisation is demanding a 60% reduction in the production of ALL plastics by 2040.
To achieve this 60% reduction by 2040, EARTHDAY.ORG’s goals include calling for the rapid phasing out of all single use plastics by 2030 and achieving this phase out commitment in the United Nations Treaty on Plastic Pollution in 2024.
They are also calling on businesses to invest in innovative technologies and materials to firstly reduce plastic use, then move towards building a plastic-free world.
How Much Disposable Plastic Does Our Society Use
- Global plastic use has reached an estimated 460 million metric tons in recent years.

How Much Disposable Plastic Does Gloss Fuel Use
- Our outer packaging is 100% recycled and 100% recyclable. We use no single use plastics or 'eco-plastics' - just paper and card.
- Our cardboard boxes are manufactured with 100% recycled paper and can be completely recycled (or re-used).
- Our kraft paper brown packaging tape is an eco-friendly packaging solution. Paper tape is eco-friendly and fully recyclable.
- Our box filler/packing material is made made from unprinted newspapers and is extremely sustainable, being easily recycled.
We do use plastic bottles, containers and refill packs - there's no denying this. We're minimising the amount of plastic we're using and are innovating where we can, using the most sustainable, recyclable plastics available:
- Our HDPE and PET bottles are made from 30% recycled plastic material and are fully recyclable.
- Our 5 Litre HDPE containers are made from 100% recycled plastic and are 100% recyclable.
- All of our caps, lids and triggers are fully recyclable.
- Our trigger sprayers output a minimum of 5000ml. This means you can refill one of our 500ml bottles at least ten times, maximising the life of the bottle and trigger.
- We encourage all of our customers to keep the bottles and simply refill them from one of our innovative Gloss Fuel ReFuel Packs which use 75% less plastic and are 100% recyclable.
60X40 - 60% Reduction of Plastic Production by 2040
At Gloss Fuel, we don't believe that all plastic is evil and dangerous. Over-reliance and over-use of single use plastic is clearly a growing problem that we need to address as individuals, as a society and within our own industry.
We're taking steps to reduce our dependence on single use plastic and are actively encouraging our customers to reuse, refill and recycle.
